8. Tom Gores ($3 billion), Detroit Pistons
Gores made his billions in the world of private equity and purchased the Pistons for the seemingly high price of $325 million four years ago. However, with NBA team valuations skyrocketing, with the Clippers selling for over $1 billion, the Bucks fetching $550 million and the Atlanta Hawks expected to land somewhere between the two, Gores would be able to flip the team for over $800 million if he so chooses.
7. Dan Gilbert ($4.3 billion), Cleveland Cavaliers
Perhaps best known for the letter he wrote (in Comic Sans font, no less) disparaging LeBron James when he decided to join forces with Wade and Bosh in Miami, Gilbert has since salvaged his relationship with James, leading to his much hyped return to Cleveland for the 2014-2015 season. After gaining his fortune through the invention of Quicken Loans, perhaps Gilbert and James can finally bring Cleveland that long awaited championship that they have been searching for.
