6) Malcolm Glazer – Manchester United – £2.7 Billion
Glazer made his money as president and chief executive officer of First Allied Corporation, which acts as a holding company for his many business interests. He controversially purchased Manchester United between 2003 and 2004 for an estimated £800million. The takeover saw the Glazer family restructure the £660million of debt they owed to complete the transfer and load a large amount of it on the club. In August 2012, Glazer floated Manchester United on the New York Stock Exchange, selling 10% of the club.
5) Joe Lewis – Tottenham – £2.9 Billion
The Bahamas based businessman is Chairman of the Tavistock Group, an investment corporation founded in 1975 with 200 subsidiary companies. One of these companies is ENIC Group, who purchased Tottenham Hotspur from Lord Alan Sugar in 2001. Though Lewis is technically Tottenham’s owner, his partner in ENIC Group, Daniel Levy; acts as the club’s Executive Chairman.
