Robert L. Johnson’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) became the first African-American controlled company to be listed in the NYSE in 1991. He sold BET to Viacom for a reported $3 billion in 2000, becoming the first African-American billionaire.He left the company in 2006.
He is the founder and current CEO of asset management company RLJ Companies. Through BET, he has given the world a vehicle for the voice of all things African-American.
