Ligue 1 is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the French football league system. It is contested by 20 teams. The league was inaugurated on September 11 1932, under the name National. It was changed to Division 1 after one year of its existence. It was named Ligue 1 in 2002. The league is managed with great competency. Fixtures are planned well. Rules are complete and consistently enforced. Issues are resolved in a timely manner.
During the period, cumulative revenue of the top five grew 5 percent to 9.8 billion euros. It is almost half of the overall size of the European football market, which is 19.9 billion euros.
Few eminent clubs contributed to much of the growth. Juventus accounted for more than three fourths of Serie A’s 97 million euros growth. PSG accounted for all of Ligue 1’s revenue growth. It was the same case last year also. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund accounted for more than 80 percent of Bundesliga’s 146 million euro revenue increase.
These leagues deserve all the money they are getting. They nurture talent and are professionally managed. Their contributions to the growth of the sport are immense.
