6) Fabio Capello – £6.6-million
Capello has been in charge of the Russian national team since his exit from the England job before the 2012 European Championship. 2014 was not a year to remember for Capello, as Russia crashed out of the World Cup in Brazil at the group stages. The poor performance saw Capello have to answer questions from the Russian parliament, who wondered whether the nation could justify paying the Italian such high wages. The 68-year-old remains in the job for now and hopes to lead Russia at the 2018 World Cup in their country before finally retiring.
5) Louis van Gaal – £7.3-million
Louis van Gaal enjoyed a good 2014, and this is reflected in the wages he received last year. Against all expectation his Netherlands side navigated their way out of the group of death at the World Cup and reached the semi-finals of the tournament. The Dutchman had previously announced he would leave his post before the competition and signed with Manchester United to replace David Moyes. Van Gaal is earning £7-million a year at Manchester United and looks set to achieve the objective of returning the club to the Champions League at the first time of asking.
