The richest people in Britain are even wealthier now more than ever with a combined fortune that amounts to a third to the country’s GDP. According to this year’s Sunday Times Rich List, the combined wealth of the 1,000 richest people in Britain increased by 15% to £518 billion this year from last years £449.654 billion.

#10. Gerald Grosvenor, The Duke of Westminster – £8.5 billion
Source of wealth: Property
The 6th Duke of Westminster is worth £8.5 billion. His fortune comes mostly from owning numerous amounts of properties. He owns 300 acres of land in Belgravia and Mayfair, including a big part of Oxford Street. Besides those vast lands, he also owns a big part of the Liverpool city centre, Cheshire’s Eaton Hall and 165,000 acres of land in the rural area. His assets in the property operation company Grosvenor Group rose to almost £3.5 billion in 2012. His son is on of the godparents of Prince George.
#9. Roman Abramovich – £8.52 billion

Abramovich is worth £8.53 billion coming mainly from his oil and industry businesses. He became an orphan in a very young age of three. He was raised by his uncle and he later on served in the Soviet army. He made sizeable profit from selling cheap plastic products. Later on he got into the oil industry and later on owned Sibneft, one of the biggest oil producers in Russia. Now, he owns various valuable arts, yachts, and other properties. He spent £2 billion to turn Chelsea football club to what it is today. He gave an estimated £188 million to charity from 2010 to 2012.
