SkyTran Hover Cars:
skyTran is a patented, high-speed, low-cost elevated personal rapid transit system (RTS). The skyTran network of computer-controlled, jet-like vehicles can carry two persons. These vehicles employ state-of-the-art passive magnetic levitation technology.
After perfecting its proprietary technology, skyTran partnered with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), an aerospace organization headquartered in Lod, for the construction of a skyTran technology demonstration system on the grounds of IAI’s corporate campus.
This is how it works once it is operational. You will order a car by smartphone. They will pick you up at a station and transport you to your destination. The IAI trial will travel at around 45 mph, but the future trains will be faster.
This really sounds exciting. Anything that promises reduction in traffic congestion is welcome.

Laurence E. (Larry) Blow says
We should be careful with certain words in future-technology discussions, and “perfected” is surely one of them. While skyTran’s website says its proprietary technology has been perfected after years of research, it only identifies one subsystem as tested and proven: the linear synchronous motor. The suspended vehicle has yet to be built and tested with all its related subsystems operating in a full-scale, full-speed environment.
We look forward to seeing the technology demonstration and its natural evolution in Tel Aviv.
