4) London Heathrow Airport ($10.5 billion)
This large airport opened in 1929. Most of the amount was spent on Terminal 5, which was opened in 2008. There are plans to spend around $1.6 billion in the next 10 years to upgrade Terminal 3. This airport earns around $16 billion every year.
3) Al Maktoum International Airport ($12 billion)
Located in Jebel Ali, UAE, this airport is around 20 miles outside Dubai. Opened in 2010, it started receiving passenger flights last year. Work is going on to expand the airport to cover three passenger terminals and five runways of 16,100 feet each. The airport will even have 100,000 parking spaces. All the work is expected to be over by 2027.
