5) The Blue Mosque, Istanbul (Turkey)
The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of the interiors. It has one main dome, six minarets and eight secondary domes. It is a historic mosque in Istanbul. Its Kulliye contains a madrasah, a hospice and the tomb of its founder. It took nearly seven years to build this mosque.
6) Al Haram Mosque, Mecca (Saudi Arabia)
Known as Al-Masjid Al-Haram and Masjidil Haram, this beautiful mosque is the largest mosque in the world. It surrounds the Kaaba, one of Islam’s holiest places. Muslims face the direction of the Kaaba while performing Salat. The structure covers an area of 88.2 acres, and can accommodate up to two million worshippers.
