9. Indonesia (100,000 kg per year)
Indonesia has the largest goldmine (Grasberg) in the world. Grasberg employs 19,000 workers. Unfortunately this mine is also one of the world’s most polluted locations. It releases 1,000 tons of mercury into the atmosphere annually.

10. Uzbekistan (90,000 kg per year)
This landlocked country has the biggest open-pit mine in the world. Much of its gold is nationalized and owned by Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat mine. Uzbekistan is rich in natural resources and has significant reserves of uranium, molybdenum, silver and copper.

Gold has contributed immensely to the wealth of the above-mentioned countries.
