4) Franz Beckenbauer
Beckenbauer was central to the success of both Bayern Munich and West Germany for over a decade. Nicknamed Der Kaiser for his elegant play and leadership, Beckenbauer is seen as the greatest defender ever to play the game. Not only a success as a player, he is one of only two people to win the World Cup as a player and manager.
3) Johan Cruyff
One of the masters of ‘Total Football’ he was central to the Ajax team that dominated the Eredivisie before signing for Barcelona in 1973. Cruyff won the Ballon d’Or three times and was part of the legendary Dutch team that lost the 1974 World Cup final to the Beckenbauer led West Germany.
