After being signed to Jive records in 2004, Brown began recording material for a self-titled debut album. It hit stores in late 2005, selling over 150,000 copies in the first week and eventually going two-times platinum.
Brown dedicated time to charitable efforts while working on his second studio release titled Exclusive. The album sold nearly 300,000 copies in the first week, showcasing just how much his following had grown. The single “Forever” even reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Brown was even honored with Billboard Magazine’s Artist of the Year award in 2008. During this time, he continued slowly accumulating TV and movie appearances.
