Here is the top 10 countries with fastest internet speeds ranked by megabytes per second (Mbps), according to IT consulting company Akamai.
10) Finland – 7.1 Mbps
During the first quarter of 2013, average speeds for broadband internet connections were 7.7 Mbps. Speed in 2012 averaged 7.1 Mbps, up 20 percent from the previous year.
9) Sweden – 7.3 Mbps
Swedes enjoyed speeds averaging 7.3 Mbps in 2012, up 29 percent from the previous year. In the first quarter of 2013, average connection speeds were 8.3 Mbps.
8) United States – 8.6 Mbps
During the first quarter of 2013, speeds averaged 8.6 Mbps. Average connection speeds in 2012 were 7.4 Mbps, around 28 percent faster than the previous year.
7) Czech Republic – 9.6 Mbps
Citizens of Czech Republic enjoyed internet speeds of 8.1 Mbps in 2012, around 21 percent faster than the previous year. During the first quarter of 2013, broadband connection speeds were 9.6 Mbps.
6) The Netherlands – 9.6 Mbps
The people residing in the Netherlands enjoyed an average broadband connection speed of 8.6 Mbps in 2012, up 3.3 percent from 2011. During the first quarter of 2013, speeds averaged 9.6 Mbps. The Netherlands is ranked with Switzerland in having the most broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.
