Many rich and famous people have evaded taxes in the past, and unfortunately some continue to do so. Here are some billionaires who cheated on their taxes.
Lee Kun-hee
Lee is the chairman of Samsung Electronics, one of the biggest electronics companies in the world. He is also the richest man in South Korea. His net worth is $11.6 billion. He was convicted of tax evasion in August 2009, though he had already paid back $130 million in overdue taxes more than a year earlier. The South Korean president pardoned him. This action drew criticism from the general public. Some felt that Lee deserved punishment.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana
Fashion moguls Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were hit by an Italian judge with a 20-month prison sentence for tax evasion. Their holding company Gado (based in Luxembourg) allegedly had not paid €40 million in taxes between 2003 and 2004. However they vehemently deny the charges and vow to continue to appeal. The court case has had a negative impact on their business. They are currently worth $1.7 billion each.
